Genre is the type of a film, Within a genre, there are precise sub divisions. This is called sub genre. Every genre has a code or convention. What this simply means is that within the genre there are factors such as props or settings that indicate it to that genre. There are some films that consist of more than one genre. This is called a hybrid genre where two or more genres are used in a film.
Why is genre important within media and film industry?
It sets the standards of whats expected within the genre, and allows the audience to familiarise themselves with the genre. In addition, the genre of a film is also tested to see which audience it brings. This then encourages the producers to identify their target audience as well as what genre they most prefer. The audience can develop personal tastes of which genre they prefer or would watch and which ones they'd rather avoid in order to put their personal preferences in a category.

My favourite type of films are Comedy, Thriller and Horror.
Comedy:
As a result, people can broaden their level of knowledge and talk more about issues with other people.Some comedy movies, for instance romantic comedies, present that information by showing some kind of interpersonal problems and their resolution. An example of this type of film is the movie Bridget Jones Diary. The main character here, Bridget Jones, picks up courage after a depressive time in her life by setting new goals in her life. Her story can help other depressed women realise that they, too, can have options in their lives. The reasons why people want to see comedy movies are the wish to be entertained and also to be informed about something.
Horror:
I enjoy horror films due to the suspense it gives. Viewers tend to watch them as they thrive for the intense scenes of when paranormal activities take place.Viewers watch horror to scare themselves. Horror targets at the ages of 15-25 as young adults and teenagers are more open minded on the idea of scaring themselves.
