What is a target audience?
A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message. In marketing and advertising, it is a particular group of consumers within the predetermined target market, identified as the targets or recipients for a particular advertisement or message.Businesses that have a wide target market will focus on a specific target audience for certain messages to send.
Why are target audience useful in film?
Whenever people watch a film, they’re looking to find something. It could be something as direct as someone just going to the cinema to watch anything, because they want to. Or they may not even know they’re looking for something – they’re just hoping to find it. Once you identify why your audience is watching your film, you can make some really good choices. You can decide what genre your going to use and what information you’re going to include. You can create and make a list of things you think they'll like incorporated in a film. You can do everything possible to thoroughly please them when they watch your film. Film making takes time. And it’ll take even longer if you don’t know who your audience is. It’s no good assuming things about them. If you create content based around their assumptions, your audience will become lost.
